While you are participating in fire clean up, you should make sure that you are safe. There are a lot of people that do not understand that they should not enter their home until their home has been declared safe by the fire marshal or another local fire authority.

There are a lot of people that have a hard time understanding that they are going to have to wait. Although it is your home and you are going to be anxious to get back in and start cleaning, you can expose yourself to serious damage if you do not wait for the home to be declared safe.

When there is burning ash in your home it can be very dangerous to re-enter your home. You should make sure that you talk to your insurance company while you are waiting to go back into your home to ensure that you are going to get the coverage that you pay for.

If you are dealing with a fire that has occurred during office hours, you should not stop calling until you talk to a real person. If your home has caught fire outside of office hours, call your insurance’s emergency lines and make sure that you leave a message with them.

After you re-enter you home and you get to start your adventure of fire clean up, you will want to make sure that you do not move things around too quickly. Your insurance adjustor will probably have to come and take pictures of your home and the damage that has occurred.

Do not be afraid to talk with your insurance agent about what has happened and ask if you can take pictures. No matter what, you will want to have the damage documented to ensure you are getting the coverage that is required to get your house back to functioning and working order.

If you are going to clean your home on your own, you should be talking with an electrical inspector to figure out whether the electrical outlets are safe to use. If you do not have an electrician check your outlets, you can expose yourself to serious injuries.

As you clean, you should make sure that windows are open and you are getting the fresh air that you need to stay safe. You should also make sure that you have heavy duty gloves on to protect yourself as you pick up the debris throughout your home.

If you come across objects that are not salvageable in your fire cleanup, make sure that you throw them away. This way, you can be sure that you are not keeping things that are going to be hazardous or are going to cause more problems in the future.
